Making time for creativity

I’ve have been very quiet on here because the school summer holidays hit. We were lucky enough to have a week away in beautiful jersey seeing friends. it provided a much needed break and change of scenery.

Since getting back, having a 6 year old around has been fun but also a lot of my ‘grown up’ creative time has been difficult to come by in the same way.

But I have made it happen. Why? because I need it.

Why I made time for my creativity?

I needed to carve out time to create for my mental health. Creativity for me allows me to spend time doing one task. I am focused on one task. It allows me time to let go of all the other distractions going on in my head and get stuck in to whatever creative task I am doing. Also I can just let go. I can play and get messy. It massively helps me let go of any perfectionistic tendencies. I can let go of structure and experiment.

This has possible even more so with experiment with mixed media art and scrapbooking. This has been new to me and I will share more of this journey as I continue to experiment.

Finding time to create

with keeping little one entertained over the summer but still finding time for my hobbies, I embraced early mornings. Being a morning person does help. However I have found that catching an hour or two while the rest of the house is sleeping has given me time to dedicate to creating.

This morning I pulled out some very old chalk paints and a stencil and played. I used a blending tool and paintbrush and just saw what happened. It was fun and I can now use the end result to make a card or tags, or even to mount a photo for a scrapbook page. My head was cleared and I was ready to start the day.

Is there any craft or creating you like to do to start your day? Would love to hear in the comments below. Or are you inspired to try something?
