Capturing the everyday moments

At least a couple of times a year I undertake the Week in the Life project. This involves documenting and capturing our everyday life over one week. The project is inspired by Ali Edwards who originally created it and offers so much inspiration. There is also a great community of scrapbookers and memory keepers who come together to participate in the project at the same time. Most recently we came together to document a week in June between Monday 20th through to Sunday 27th. It just happened to fall on the week when I was battling Covid. I wanted to carry on and take part in the project as it actually helped me focus on what was happening aside from feeling rough and unwell. Here I share an insight why I love this project and also some of my layouts. I hope it might inspire you to give it a try or take a moment to notice some of the little moments in your day.

Why I love this project

This project gives me an opportunity to notice what is happening in the here and now. To capture the everyday moments and real life as it is happening on a ‘routine’ run of the mill day. It is not about capturing those moments when everything looks great and it’s a special occasion. It is about documenting reality. It allows me to be grateful for what I have. To be mindful of what is happening in the moments of life that sometimes go pass in a blink of an eye.

Noticing and documenting the little things

I love being able to look back and remember moments that I probably would have forgotten by the next week let alone the next year. This is most noticable when remembering how much life changes and how quickly.  With what is going on in the world but also in our own little world. Each time I do the week in the life project, my little one has changed so much. This is reflected in her interests, what she can do now and how she interacts with us as she grows up. Different aspects of her personality develops and shines through every time I document our stories during the week.

What I did

To complete this project I used a past Ali Edwards Week in the Life kit that came with tags, 3×4 cards including those with quotes on. I love including quotes in my project. I’ve always been a quote lover. They offer so much inspiration and important reminders. I also found the 6×4 day of the week cards really helpful to record my journaling of the details and stories of the day. These help fill in so many of the gaps between the photos to document the week. I used some different patterns of washi tape to back my stickers and other embellishments. Using repetitive embellishment design really helped me to get the project completed in a timely fashion. It also created cohesion between the different days of the week layouts.

Who else loves this project or fancies giving it a go?

I’ve used a sketchbook in the past and stuck photos in and written round it. I’ve add any stickers I had. The great this is you can really make it your own, by styling it just the way you want to and then have a collections of memories to look back on.
